A 19-year-old NEET aspirant in Sikar, Rajasthan — whose family had taken agricultural loans to fund his second attempt — did not attend coaching classes for fourteen consecutive days. The institute's automated SMS alert system sent nothing. His parents learned he was gone when the police called.

On 28 February 2023, 16-year-old N. Satwik died at Sri Chaitanya Junior College in Narsingi, Hyderabad. He left a note describing specific incidents of staff harassment and public humiliation over test scores. Four staff members were booked for abetment of suicide. The campus was found to be operating without valid fire safety clearances.

Two Students, Four Hours, One Sunday in Kota

On 27 August 2023, two teenage NEET aspirants — Avishkar Kasle, 17, from Maharashtra, and Adarsh Raj, 18, from Bihar — died in separate Kota coaching hostels within four hours of each other, hours after completing their routine Sunday ranking tests. The next day, all coaching tests across Kota were suspended for two months.

Kota, 2023: The City That Had to Change Its Ceiling Fans

In 2023, Kota recorded at least 26 student deaths by suicide — one roughly every two weeks. The administration mandated spring-loaded ceiling fans that disconnect under the weight of a body, banned Sunday tests, and trained 2,500 hostel wardens as mental health first-aiders. The deaths fell to 16 in 2024.
